behind the song (and video): "Chasin' Rainbows"

It has been an exciting period leading up to the release of the new album (Leaving Traces) and shortly after also the video for the song Chasin' Rainbows. I thought it would be nice to share some of the ideas behind the piece and how this translates into the video. Eventually, I hope you'll see something in it which fits your own story. (If so I'm curious to hear about that! Please leave any thoughts and ideas in the comments section; over here, on youtube, or wherever you come across it :). Here's some of my thoughts behind it...

The theme of the piece consists of two elements (which appear not to exist without each other): one is the fire of wanting to accomplish great (possibly/probably not entirely realistic ;) plans, and the other one is the resistance that comes along with it, arising from all the uncertainties related to it.

When you go for it you'd have to step out of the secure space which is your arena now (the "checkered blanket" in the song). To step outside it means freedom (and possibly amazing things) but it also comes with fear that the fire to pursue your dreams will at some point fade away and you might give up this "chase". The only way to keep going is to tell yourself: "there is no such thing as running out" (of energy, passion..).

This idea is being depicted by the dancer who moves between a closed and open space, starting in the closed space. While she touches the ground (in the first scene) she moves outside to the open space, which is as a parallel world in which she could be in any moment. In the course of the song, the atmosphere switches back and forth between these two elements of the theme. The dancer is being carried away by these developments, moving between the two places. Which world is reality is up to you.. :)
